HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOM!

FOR THIS IS WHAT THE LORD SAYS: "AS A MOTHER
COMFORTS HER CHILD, SO WILL I COMFORT YOU."
( ISAIAH 66:13 *NIV )

Dear Charles,
We can not measure the tremendous love that God
has for His Children in human terms. However, I do
believe the closest thing on Earth to that great love,
is the love a Mother has for her child!

Therefore, on this day we honor that special lady
in our life, our Mother. So, LET YOUR FATHER AND
YOUR MOTHER BE GLAD, AND LET HER WHO BORE
YOU REJOICE, ( PROVERBS 23:25 ) and may she
be filled with God's Love, Hope, Faith, and Peace today
and everyday!

The following was sent to me by one of our Brother's-
In-Christ, some time ago. I feel that it is appropriate to
share it with you today. It is called:

Why are you crying, Mom?

"Why are you crying?" he asked his Mom. "Because I'm a
woman" she told him. "I don't understand," he said. His
Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will"..........

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother
seem to cry for no reason? "All women cry for no reason"
was all his dad could say........

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering
why women cry...

Finally he put in a call to GOD; when GOD got on the phone
the man said, "GOD, why do women cry so easily?"
and GOD said.......

When I made woman, she had to be special. I made her
shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the World;
yet, gentle enough to give comfort....

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the
rejection that many times comes from her children......

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when
everyone else gives up and take care of her family through
sickness and fatigue without complaining......

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and
all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very
badly...

This same sensitivity helps her to make a child's boo-boo
feel better and shares in their teenagers anxieties and
fears.......

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults
and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.....

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts
his wife, but, sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve
to stand beside him unfalteringly.....

I gave her tears to shed. They are hers to use whenever she
needs them. They are her secret strength. They make her
more like ME.....

Students doing surveillance project capture dramatic footage

A 21-year veteran of Toronto police has been charged with assault after a cyclist was attacked in downtown Toronto – an incident dramatically captured on videotape by a group of students working on a project about surveillance cameras.

The 45-year-old cyclist, Andrzej Sokol, was riding on Queen St. W. when he stopped at a yellow light on Bay St. just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A visibly upset driver in the car behind Sokol yelled profanities and honked his horn.

The driver then got out of the car and kicked the victim's bicycle.

When Sokol picked up his bike and moved toward the sidewalk, he was punched in the face at least three times. The driver returned to his car and drove away.

The altercation – and the driver's licence plate number – was captured on video by a group of Grade 12 students from Ursula Franklin Academy and was broadcast on CP24 and other television stations.

"That guy just used the horn...and he said, `move it, move it,'" Sokol told CP24 following the incident.

"Surveillance has been a hot-button issue in the media (and) one of the things we're looking at is the usefulness of cameras, so it's interesting they caught this on tape," Ursula Academy teacher Allison Mann, told CP24.

The video concludes with a shot of a tooth that had been dislodged from Sokol's mouth on the pavement.

Sokol was not otherwise seriously injured but he told CP24 he was rattled after learning the identity of the man charged.

"I didn't expect that, that was shock for me," he said yesterday. The students handed over the video to police to be used as evidence.

Const. Darius Tierman, who has been on leave since October 2004, turned himself in to police the following morning.

Tierman, 44, is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He was granted bail yesterday at Old City Hall provincial court.

Among the conditions of release, Tierman must keep the peace and not come within 50 metres of any place where Sokol is known to be.

This month, a York Region police officer pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

A 40-year-old man was stopped by police in Vaughan and refused to provide a roadside breath sample in November of 2006.

He was arrested and put in the back of a cruiser where he was assaulted by an officer.

Const. Ryan Venables pleaded guilty to assault following an investigation.

He was placed on a suspended sentence with 18 months probation and 150 hours of community service and counselling.

Venables faces other charges, including discreditable conduct and neglect of duty.

He is to appear for a hearing on June 15 and will be without pay until resolution of the charges.

Charles:

Just got back from the Atlantic Journalism Awards ceremony here in Halifax where the CBC's reporting of your arrest at the Atlantica conference swept the spot news television awards. I sent you a picture of me and cameramen Denis Butler (brother of Edith Butler) and Roger Cosman from the ceremony. The news story won the award for best television spot news story of the year and Denis and Roger tied for best spot news footage for their camera work on the story. Denis filmed the protesters coming down King Street and breaking into the Trade and Convention Centre and Roger shot the stuff of you getting arrested.

We were thinking of you tonight Charles and thought you'd be interested.

Bob
