AN EMAIL FROM THE STUDENTS AT UNBSJ!!!!!!

Hoot-bodygaurd

Dear Mr. LebLanc,

Below is a letter the students of the unbsj calss are sending the TJ everyday until it get published. We sent it to ron barry and people have to know the truth the telegraph journal is not gonna down play the truth about what happeneded.

We want to correct the story about what went on in our class at UNBSJ. The paper did not get their facts right. Candidates were asked to talk about their party and policies - not to campaign. Ms. Hooton did the opposite.

The first question was about small business taxes. She answered rudely and told the student "that she had been a business woman since she was 19 and that he did not know what he was talking about".

The second question asked why she was keeping her position and salary as deputy mayor while running for provincial election. She said the student was "wrong" to suggest that she was not doing her job properly. She was quite forceful in her response to us. She then pointed her finger at him and told him not to roll his eyes at her.

Another student brought up the LNG question. Ms. Hooton said she was against two things, first the deal and second the process. It became clear from her discussion that by the second vote she was only against the process not the deal itself. A visiting Professor pointed out the contradiction, but was asked to leave questioning to the students.

At the end of the class the student with the handwritten sign reading "Rooting against Hooton" was approached and asked to give her the sign. Her request was rather intimidating given the three male campaign workers with her.

Our greatest concern with the Telegraph Journal story is that it downplays the forceful and aggressive tone of Ms. Hooton’s talk. We were left feeling under attack.

Sincerely,

The students of Canadian Politics
